 I think I should tell you about a man who has contacted us about coming for
a series of meetings that have to do with some new way of worshipping. He admits that he has no ordination papers or
any ties to the Assembly of God, and Springfield denies any association with him or his "new" belief.
However, some people have taken to him, despite what background we can find out, and have even helped
him. We hear that once he was apparently in an upstairs place and some who disagreed with what he was telling, were
about to do him harm, but some of his new friends helped him escape out the window and to the ground.
He seems to be a world traveler, though. He told of shipwrecks he's been in, and although many times has been in
jail for extended periods. He's not a good looking fellow, and seems to have trouble with his eyes, although it
hasn't hurt his zeal for whatever he's teaching. And many have gone along with him, even while others in their
same congregation have beaten him up. And so, although he has some interesting things to say...some of them unbelievable...he
is gaining a following. And that's why I'm telling you about his coming through here, and wanting to speak in
our services. Perhaps if we allow him...say for a three-night revival...we could at least find out what is so important
about this new belief he's peddling, that he would actually suffer physical hardships to talk about it. The things
he says would change our way of worship, so letting him come here would not be a thing to take lightly.
At a glance, it appears that he doesn't eat well, or regularly. And all he had with him was a back pack. He
must hitch-hike from town to town, because he didn't have a car.
I admit, this doesn't speak
well of him, but somehow I was struck by the words he had to say, and the compelling way he had of talking to us. I'm
asking for your feelings about letting him speak in our pulpit. Let me know.
