Okay, I'm a softie. I was watching "Miracle On 34th Street" for the umpteenth time, and an elderly lady with
a little girl stood in line to talk to Santa...(the REAL Santa, remember). The lady whispered to Santa that although the little
girl was Dutch, and had just come to this country because she had lost her own parents, the little one had insisted on talking
to Santa, even though she realized that he wouldn't understand her. Then, imagine their surprise when Santa started talking
to the little girl...in her own Dutch language! She brightened like a flower and opened up to him. She had found someone who
understood!
Yes, it brought tears to my eyes, and reminded me that Christ is like that. No matter what your language...no
matter how far away you are from home...He's always ready to listen. And understand. No busy signal like on your phone...and
no choices to press. Can you imagine calling the Lord and this angel voice says...If you're sick, press one; if you're unhappy,
press two...that could go on forever, couldn't it. Because each of us has so many things to need Him for.
And I've mentioned to you at other times, how He's never increased what He requires of us. Salvation is still
free, even in this high economy. And the tithing percentage that is a guide to our giving back to Him, has never been raised.
I say "guide," because Christ has set no rules. He wants us to give from our hearts, not grudgingly, because when we have
that kind of feeling, we may as well just not give anything. Can you picture your Dad handing you a Christmas gift with a
growl and a frown, saying, "Well, if I have to give you something, HERE, TAKE IT." Takes the fun out, doesn't it.
That's why Jesus said the widow's mite that she put in the offering was more than the big money given by the
well-to-do. Because she gave all she had with a willing heart. Christ looks on the HEART and He never changes the rules. He's
the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8).
By the way...He even knows sign language
