Do you remember the little Dutch girl in the movie “Miracle on 34th Street?” She was in this country
as a World War Two refugee. The wheels didn’t believe Santa was real, and neither did the little American girl played
by Natalie Wood. But when the little Dutch girl got on Santa’s lap and began talking to him in her home language…wonder
of wonders; Santa answered fluently in her language! It was proof enough for Natalie, and the movie ended happily. Reminded
me of how God knows everyone’s language.
Changing thoughts now…if you don’t understand the opera, you aren’t going to like it. Same
with ballet, with those people dancing on their toes. I don’t care for it, and chances are you don’t either, because
we haven’t been brought up with that in our lives. And you won’t change unless you give it a chance.
And do you remember how city folks turned up their noses at country music until Bing Crosby sung a few of
those tunes and people got a new attitude about them. And I remember how uppity folks considered Pepsi Cola as a “hick”
drink. Then the advertisements took on a new look of pretty ladies drinking pepsi from a glass, with the slogan, “Now
it’s PEPSI, for those who think YOUNG!” I clearly remember the first billboard I saw, that changed thinking about
that 12-ounce bottle of soda pop.
You know why so many people don’t believe the Bible? It’s because they haven’t exposed themselves
to it. They choose to ignore, rather than to read it. And if you haven’t checked out a thing, you aren’t going
to give a chance for your pre-conceived ideas to vary.
Start with the Gospels…then maybe take a chapter from both the Old and the New Testaments each time
you read. It will be the most important part of your life’s education.
