I don’t know about you, but I wonder where I’d be, if it were not for the Sabbath.
Christ talked as though we shouldn’t judge others, even to holding that day special, but as for myself,
I need the Sabbath Day. It’s as though my boat has taken on water day after day, and on Sunday, I bail it out. It’s
my rest stop. It’s the meal I’ve been missing…a patch on the knees of my trousers.
I know…Jesus Himself said “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath” (Mark
2:27). And He said, “One man esteemed one day above another; another esteemed every day alike. Let every man be fully
persuaded in his own mind. He that regarded the day, regarded it unto the Lord (Rom 14:5) (He also likened the same to eating,
or living; it is unto the Lord or not. Christ was teaching that we should not judge others). And He said, “Let no man
therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days (Colossians
2:16).
But This is not to say that we can live as we wish all week, then try to make things right the next Sunday,
even though Jesus said we should forgive others, not seven times, but seven times seventy (Matt 18:22). He’s saying
for every person to be satisfied in his own mind; for example, if his job requires him to work on the Sabbath, as we must
here at the radio station. Remember Christ also, chided the Pharisees, reminding them that if their ox fell into a ditch on
the Sabbath, they would pull him out Luke 14:5).
And so the Sabbath is special to me. It fixes my flat tire. It’s like gassing my car. Thank you Lord,
for the Sabbath Day.
