Recently I talked to you about how 400,000 of our young men died in World War Two. For the about three years
and eight months we were at war, that number averages out to about 300 dying for each and every day of the war.
But think of this…more that that die in auto accidents in this country, every day, year in and year
out…for all of your life. I remember some years ago, that any time a holiday was coming up, the radio would announce
the number of deaths expected for each day of that holiday period. At that time, it averaged about 350 per day, and our traffic
has doubled since then.
They don’t make that warning announcement any longer, but you may be sure that with illegal drugs added
to the drinking that has become so fashionable, instead of under the table or in a brown paper bag, the figure is scary.
And it doesn’t matter how carefully you drive…how “defensibly” you drive, you aren’t
safe. Not long ago, a report came over the scanner that a car was racing south in the wrong lane of a four-lane highway. And
he crashed of course, into an innocent, safe-driving victim. You have no idea the condition of the driver in another car…alcohol,
drugs, fatigue, worry…there are any number of ways a safe driver can die on our highways.
So what can you do? Here’s a thing: Ask God to protect you as you drive, and ask that He accept you
into His Heaven if evil overpowers another motorist and brings you an untimely death.
As for the peace we all search for…there is war in some area of the world at all times…while this
country was at peace some years ago, an announcer that there was strife in at least 15 parts of the world. The only real peace
you can have is to rest in the peace of mind that Christ can give. If you haven’t given your life to Him, do it now,
and begin enjoying the assurance that only He can give.
Safety? Every nation has its tornados, hurricanes, floods, fires, volcanoes or some other danger, and people
die in countless ways. So put your life in the hands of Christ, and enjoy righteous living. Try it; you’ll like it!
