Can anything good come out of a recession? Well, try this: MGM Grand…one of the biggest gambling casinos
in Las Vegas is about to take bankruptcy because of big losses these days, due to fewer people losing their money to our gamblers.
You know, the feds aren’t calling this a “depression,” and in comparison to life during
the one in the 30’s, it’s not. But I was a child at that time, and even I could see that if you didn’t have
a job, it was bad, with a capital “B.”
And it’s like that now…if you have a job, you’re making it if you’re sensible, but
if you don’t have a job, it’s a depression, as far as you are concerned.
And so back to “can anything good come out of all this.” Well, I also remember that in that depression
of the 30’s, more people got close to God. More people went to church, and even the guys who wouldn’t go inside,
would stand outside the windows and whisper to the girls inside. (no air conditioning, remember). And who knows…maybe
they heard something the preacher was saying, once in a while, or heard the folks in there singing “Amazing Grace,”
and some of it stuck for later.
It’s a pity that some businesses are hurting, but others are doing well…
for example, auto repair garages are seeing more customers…shoe repair shops may make a comeback…fancy
stores are hurting, but places who charge sensible prices are doing right well.
My advice…if you aren’t right with God, now’s the time. Then stick with it. Don’t
be a fair-weather friend to the Lord, because He can see through that like a Windexed window. And remember, you don’t
need a fancy prayer; just talk to Him. Sincerity is the magic word.
Yes…recession has its good points. I pray that you were prepared.
