We recently had a waterline problem at our house, and at the same time, a faucet had been slowly dripping,
so we had the plumber fix both on the same trip.
But to fix the one under the house, we needed to start catching the drip in a container at the faucet, because
it was running through the plumber’s repair space, which needed to be dry for him to do the work. So we started catching
that slow little drip, and were surprise at how fast the container filled up. In fact, we had to set the alarm clock every
couple of hours through the night, before he could finish the second part of the job.
And do you know…we figured that slow little drip was wasting at least a gallon per hour. Which figures
nearly nine-thousand gallons per year. In other words, it adds up. A little bit can become a whole lot. And the longer it
occurs, the worse it gets.
Only one water drop…only one sin. Does that put into perspective, why Jesus said “Whosoever therefore
shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven.
But whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:19). That
includes not only the guilty, but also one who disregards the Bible’s words and leads others the wrong way. I have in
mind a minister in Kansas City who says the stories in the Bible are myths, meant only to teach God’s greatness. Pity
and pray for such folks.
