I get lots of ideas at Sunday School for these thoughts I call "Conquest."
Here's one I had heard earlier, but it was brought to mind again as our Sunday School teacher (Barbara Grainger)
told of the man who had a flat tire on a cold, rainy night, out on an unfamiliar highway.
It was late, but he saw a farmhouse nearby, so decided to ask the man there to loan him a jack. As he walked
toward the house, he thought to himself that it was so late that the man probably wouldn't come to the door. As he walked
on, he also decided that even if that mean old man did come to the door, he'd suspect robbery, and might have a gun, and might
even shoot him before he could knock on the door. Then he thought that if the old codger did come to the door, he wouldn't
want to loan his jack to a stranger. And probably would think that he’d be expected to go help, and he wouldn’t
want to. The nerve of that discourteous, ill-mannered guy! This went on until he got to the door and knocked.
The man of the house opened the door and the fuming stranger yelled "Just keep your old jack!" And he stormed
back to his car.
Don't get mad at God even before you ask for His help. He's waiting for you. Not to wave a magic wand, but
to help you through life's problems, til He returns and takes us out of all this. Get yourself ready. There's a better place
if you want it.
