Most of you who read my type of writings will remember David Wilkerson. He wrote the book, “The Cross
and the Switchblade.” When he was in his 20’s, he saw a picture in Life magazine of a boy who had helped murder
a 15-year-old polio victim, and God called him to go to New York City to help those boys.
That trip, which seemed crazy to him at the time, has saved thousands from drugs and other unspeakable habits,
and his work is now called “Teen Challenge.” He has a pamphlet he mails out every three weeks, free to anyone
who wants it, and I’m quoting from the August 4, 2008, edition where he notes that the first heroin addict to be saved
and delivered through the Teen Challenge ministry was Sonny Arguinzoni, who now serves as bishop of more than 600 churches
worldwide, made up of former addicts.
And at last year’s conference of these churches, one-thousand former prostitutes formed a choir to sing
God’s praises! And Nicky Cruz, another famous former gangster and graduate of Teen Challenge, has preached to millions
since being saved under David Wilkerson’s ministries.
I don’t recall which of those drug addicts was involved in this little tid-bit, but Wilkerson was on
a slum street in New York when one of those addicts, sneering a Dave, said something like, “Yeah, you got shoes, but
I ain’t got no shoes.” And Dave took off his own shoes and handed them to that boy. And it changed a life.
If you want to call this a commercial for Dave, so be it. And if you want a sermon from him every three weeks,
