In this Middle-East battle we’ve been fighting for five years, at this writing, there have been almost
4,000 of our troops killed. That’s in all types of deaths…accidents and other means, as well as in combat conditions.
That’s about 800 per year, or less than three per day, on the average.
And as horrible as that is to us…the latest figures I’ve found on highway deaths here in the United
States, from alcohol related deaths alone…about 20 per day die on our highways here at home! And we’re talking
about persons ages 16 to 20...not even the entire number of deaths, just on our highways.
Who knows how many die from all types of reasons, or for all ages.
And although we’re talking about many more people here in the U.S. than the number of our military in
the Middle East, still the fact is that it’s more dangerous to drive on our highways here in the United States, than
it is to fight in our Middle East war, or disagreement, or whatever it’s called. My four years in the military from
1948 to 1952 was called the “Korean situation,” as I recall.
And so alcohol rears its ugly head again, doesn’t it. We would never have believed, back in the 1950’s,
that there would be such an outcry against smoking as we have now, and that’s good, because tobacco causes many deaths.
Most for the most part, the deaths are to the smokers.
But drinking hurts in many ways, to many people…even the innocent ones like those who die in traffic
accidents caused by drunk drivers. As for the drinker himself, or herself, it causes much pain in other ways…lost jobs,
lost family, reputation and in other ways.
And so it all boils down again to this: Christ is The Answer. Giving a life to Him means a change in attitude,
habits and life direction. No other decision can mean so much to users and to their potential victims.
Thank about it.
