I’ve read that our English language is the most difficult to master, even though I’ve also read
that in writing Chinese, even the way the pen strokes the paper gives different meanings.
But think of English words that are spelled the same, but take on different meanings, according to how they’re
used in the sentence…words like “read,” as in the sentence “I know how to read.” But if you’re
saying “I’ve read that book,” it a different word. To say nothing of the color “red,” which
is spelled differently, but is pronounced the same.
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” He also said He came to give light…that is, understanding,
to us. But that’s enough for many people to ignore the Bible, saying simply that they don’t understand it.
Well, there are places in the Bible that can confuse someone who hasn’t spent any time checking into
its meaning, and versions of the Bible have helped. For example, my side-by-side Bible…the original King James and the
newer Living Bible, go along together, so that if you don’t understand the word “cubit,” the Living Bible
uses “18 inches,” or approximately the length from a man’s elbow to the end of his fingers.
But those folks don’t really want to understand, and that’s the best excuse they can come up with,
rather than the truth. The Bible is clear enough on the important things for anyone to understand that Jesus died as a sacrifice
for our sins, and if we’ll accept Him, our sins will be forgiven and forgotten. And it’s clear enough for anyone
to know that if we continue from that time, living right, that we have the promise of eternal Heaven when our time is up in
this life. I’d advise you to make that decision, now.
